Gone Fishing!

November 24, 2014

I wanted to share an experience I got to be a part of with two of our patients. We have some gentlemen, one home and one care facility, who wanted to fish one more time in their life. With the help of our wonderful and inspired Chaplain, Carrie, these two men were able to relive memories and experience a fishing rod in their hand one more time. We spent a wonderful three hours on the bountiful lake soaking in the view, the sun and especially the company of these two outstanding men.

In spending time with these men, we had the opportunity to hear about their fears, hopes, and past experiences as we watched the water move around us on the platform. What a great opportunity this was for me to not only understand more about fishing but about those we serve. Even though we didn’t catch anything or even have a bite, there was a beautiful memory formed and a presence that was deeply felt. When I think back on this beautiful day, I think about the patients we visit and how even though we feel like we “didn’t catch anything” at times we still can form a sweet relationship of love and friendship.”
