Specialized end-of-life care for patients with respiratory failure, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Interstitial Lung Disease, Pulmonary Fibrosis and other severe lung diseases meeting hospice criteria.
Silverado Hospice offers expertise in the specialized care and equipment necessary to ensure comfort to hospice patients with pulmonary diseases. By delivering specialized care focused on aggressive symptom management, the team focuses on reducing emergency room visits and hospital readmissions.
The interdisciplinary Silverado team provides education to the patient and their caregivers on pulmonary disease, focusing on building understanding, establishing realistic expectations and supporting the ability to maintain control as the disease progresses.
Through this specialized care and attention, the Pulmonary Hospice Program supports one main goal – providing the patient the best quality of life possible.
Silverado’s specialized care for patients with cardiac disease includes:
- Airvo (high flow oxygen) and Bipap (for patients that would otherwise be required to stay in the hospital)
- Pleurx for chest drainage (Thoracentesis), including nurses are trained to drain in the home to prevent re-admission to hospital and emergency room visits
- Medications delivered to the home for symptom management
- Nebulizer treatment, rescue inhalers (for shortness of breath) and other medications as-needed
This program can help relieve many of the major symptoms associated with pulmonary disease, such as:

- Difficulty breathing

- Fluid buildup and uncontrolled coughing
- Intensified stress, anxiety or depression
